The Great Deep

The Great Deep is a one movement piece for piano and tuba. It is in five sections. The first opens with a sonic description of the sea free from any foreign conqueror. The second section introduces humanity to the piece and the ocean rejects man by sending a great storm to sink the ship in the third section. The fourth section is filled with aleatory describing the vastness of the bottom of the ocean where the ship now lies. The final section is the shortest. It is all that remains from the wreckage. It is a chest that washes up on the shore with a small music box still wound inside that slows down until it finally stops.
